Lawyer Auto Accident
What should I do, get a lawyer (Auto accident)?
On July 23, 09′ on I-84E in CT I was in an accident, my car was totaled, the other driver was found at fault. My car was towed to a local shop and the police officer gave me a paper with the information to obtain an accident report. Following the accident I heard nothing from the other Ins. company I finally tracked down a phone number for them (Safeco) and started the process. I was told to get a rental and asked briefly about getting medical attention to which I received no clear answer long story short I still have not received medical attention because no one will return my calls. What should I do, my insurance company has already tried calling them with little more success? Today is August 14, 2009
I would say don’t wait for them to call you before you get the medical care. Go and get it, and let them deal with the bills. If you have to pay anything out of pocket for your expenses, save all the receipts for reimbursement. If you have 1st party medical coverages on your own policy, the other insurance company will probably tell you to file a claim with your own company first, and once they (the other company) accept liability, they will reimburse your carrier. If you haven’t already filed a claim with your own company, I suggest you do that right away. You are required by your policy contract to do so. If you have the applicable coverages (collision), they can start the repair process right away, you will need to pay your deductible. If the other party is at fault, your insurance company can pursue them after repairs for a reimbursement of your deductible.
Getting a lawyer is a personal decision, but I can tell you the first thing they are going to do (if they even take the case) will be to file a claim on your insurance policy. Why pay them to do that for you, when you can just do that yourself for free?
