Personal injury accident?
I had an accident at work recently and lost 2 thirds of my thump. Doctor and hospital reports indicate that is equal to 50% of my hand use. Workmans comp want to settle for a $40,000 and close the books on it. A lawyer is telling me not to accept and take it to trial. Has anyone had similiar experiences?
By law work comp lawyers get 20% of any settlement regardless. They do cover medical costs but not pain and suffering.
Wow, $40,000 for losing half of your thumb.. ridiculous. If you lost it due to negligence on behalf of your company than you could get much, much more than $40,000 to cover everything from medical costs, pain and suffering, and potential lost wages if you cannot work because of your condition. I’d take your attorney’s advice and pursue it further if you feel your attorney has a chance. Always keep in mind, though, that your attorney may want to simply pursue it so they can obtain lawyer fees. Just make sure he has your best intentions in mind before his own.
