how long does a car accident settlement take?
lawyer said end of april beggining of may 2009 he would start on my case how long do these take?
I have had two simple ones. The lawyer worked on a contingency and took one third of the settlement. In simple cases they try to settle out of court to avoid more costs and to settle things quickly. I settled both of mine out of court and it took about 6 months for each of them. Remember, even if the lawyer is on a contingency, if he has to go to court or take a lot of phone calls from you, he bills that separately.
On another note, a friend of mine was on that bus full of kids in Illinois back in 1995 that got hit by a train and those students were killed. My friend sued the train company, and the bus company and the school district. It was a complicated case and it took about 13 years to settle. She cleared about 300K from it. So imagine how much the lawyers got with all the court appearances etc.
